Scrimshire 'Bring Our Light To Every Corner' (Albert's Favourites) - a review

August 20, 2026

Nine albums in and Adam Scrimshire has made a record that surely deserves to be in all the ‘Best Of’ lists of 2026. The multi-instrumentalist, producer and label head has drawn on the spiritual-soul-jazz-folk of 60s and 70s artists such as Terry Callier, Pentangle and Charles Stepney, merging it with a widescreen cinematic vision worthy of David Axelrod, invited a swathe of wonderful guests and just opened his heart. Joyful, reflective and with a much needed sense of communion, this is a glorious record for these fractured times. Read / Listen.

Anna Ling 'BTTFL (Lucky Sun Remix)' (Lucky Sun Recordings) - single premiere!

May 26, 2026

We are delighted to host the premiere of this superior downbeat remix of a song by the wonderful alt-folk artist Anna Ling. A mesmerising ‘trip hop’ rework from Lucky Sun (aka Tom Lown), ‘BTTFL’ is just perfect for this rare May heatwave here in the UK. Anna’s otherworldy harmonies loop into the ether whilst Tom’s live drums keep it slow and steady. Simple and quite beautiful, we are in classic Fila Brazillia or K&D territory and it’s just what the doctor ordered.

Diepkloof United Voice 'Harmonizing Soweto: Golden City Gospel & Kasi Soul from the new South Africa' (Ostinato Records)

September 28, 2023

During lockdown you may have been lucky enough to catch the viral phone video of nine young South African men singing a heart-bursting song called ‘Too Late For Mama’ a capella in a darkened room. These wonderful singers are Soweto’s Diepkloof United Voice and thanks to New York’s Ostinato Records (who discovered them via said video), they now have a debut album coming out in November. The word ‘essential’ gets way overused in the hype game of musical releases but this really is. The combined voices of this new generation of Mzansi gospel singers is a gift. Read / Listen..
