We are very pleased to premiere the gently captivating Orange Jam from the brand new album Anarya by the Turkish-born, German-based composer and multi-instrumentalist Ozan Tekin. Like every track on the album, Orange Jam is a wistful, minimalist journey that is a musical realisation of his own journey from his family home of Adana in southern Turkey to Istanbul then Berlin and back again. An immigrants journey and an attempt to convey some of the feelings that this particular feeling of disconnection can entail.

It is also the story of the main instrument on the record, a battered 66 year old German piano that Ozan was offered in 2019 and which he fell in love with, its tone resonating, despite its workings needing much TLC. The 34 year old hadn’t owned a piano since he was 17 so a lifetime later, and with a YouTube video education in fixing the thing, the piano was reborn and became the conductor for his new music.

The album title Anarya is part of a saying “anarya gitmek” derived from his hometown Adana meaning “going back”, and the album is a poetic, deeply melodic reflection on his ‘return’. It really is a lovely body of work.

‘Anarya’ will be released on Gülbaba Records on May 27th.
